WELCOME
Back to Church
26th September - 2010

St Giles Church is very pleased to be part of the Derby diocesan initiative to encourage and welcome back to church those who, for whatever reason, have attended church in the past but now no longer do so. I have heard of many personal accounts of people who have attended Sunday school regularly as a child and then gone on to be confirmed. For some people the many challenges of life have sought to deflect them from belonging to a Christian community. For others the loss of a loved one has caused them to question their faith. No doubt as you are reading this you may have your own very personal reasons why you have ceased coming to church.

Your special invitation
We at St Giles extend a very warm welcome to you. We offer you a special, personal invitation to come and be part of our Sunday worship. This includes sharing the gospel, praying, singing, reflecting upon God’s word and receiving Holy Communion.
St Giles is a worshipping community who demonstrates genuine hospitality, welcome and a compassionate heart.

Our Bible focus for this month comes from Hebrews Chapter 13 v2 -
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing
that some have entertained angels without knowing it”.

Perhaps you have thought about coming back to church but feel a little apprehensive about it.

Do any of these questions relate to how you might be feeling?
Q I haven’t been to church for many years. How will I know what to do?
A There will be someone to welcome you at the door. Look out for Revd Helen and say hello to her. She is always happy to help in any way.

Q Will the services have changed since the last time I came to church?
A St Giles uses Common Worship services. The language is easy to understand and to follow. It might be slightly different from what you have been used to. The structure and the words used all help us to worship God the Father, through his son Jesus Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Q I would like to speak to someone before I make a decision to come back to church. Who can I ask?
A Please contact Revd Helen on 0114-2482769. She will be happy to either talk over the phone or to visit you at your home.

Q Will I be asked to do something?
A There is no pressure to do anything. We hope that you will come and join in our worship.

Q What services are available on this special Sunday?
A We have the 10am Holy Communion service followed by A Songs of Praise at 6.30p.m. You are welcome to either or both services.

Q What happens after that?
A We hope that you will have found our services welcoming and worshipful. We hope that you will consider coming to St Giles again.

In addition to the Sunday morning services there are also other special services leading up to Christmas. See our Calander of events:  These include:-
  • Harvest Festival in October
  • Remembrance Service in November
  • Christingle in December

We shall look forward to seeing you at St Giles.
    God bless you
