God's Gift - by Ann Ward

When God created Heaven and Earth

He gave us sunshine and showers,

The sky he filled with shining stars

And the earth with beautiful flowers.

The humble little snowdrops

Pure as the driven snow,

Promises a new beginning

As Christ's birth did long ago.

The oils and perfumes of many flowers

We use as a special treat,

Just as Mary did for Jesus

When she anointed the Master's feet.

The poppy is a symbol of remembrance

For those who died so a war we could win,

It's as red as the blood that Jesus shed

When he died to take away our sin.

Consider the lily, its trumpet shaped flower

Proclaiming our Father's Word,

As did the disciples that first Easter time

When they saw their risen Lord.

So as you view these lovely flowers

Given to us from Heaven above,

May they lift your spirits and fill your hearts

With GOD's everlasting love.
