Our Wednesday afternoons of “Messy Church” have become very popular, with over 50 children attending the last one. It’s not an after-school club or a Sunday school, the clue is in the title – it is CHURCH but creative, sometimes a little chaotic but bags of fun and yes – MESSY!!!! We make no charge for the sessions, but do ask for a donation to help us to cover the cost of materials and the meal. It is designed to be a place where both parents, carers and children get together to have fun, be creative, worship and have a meal together. |

4-10-08 | Harvest Celebrations. St. Giles Church held their ‘Harvest Celebrations’ fundraising evening at the Church Hall in Killamarsh. Saturday 4th October. Guests were invited to bring their Garden produce, home baking and handicrafts. These were judged and then auctioned off. A Pie & Pea supper was served, along with Line dancing entertainment during the evening Including the raffle the total funds raised from the evening was £620. | The winners of the competition were Mrs H Nettleship for her Lord Lambourn apples and Mrs M Hall won the home baking section with a chocolate & walnut cake, and a hand made rug in the crafts category.

27-7-08 | Society of Raving Ringers. This troupe of Bell ringers visited St Giles Parish Church, Killamarsh on Sunday 27th July 2008. They rang the bells continuously for almost an hour and one of the methods that they successfully completed was the Treble Bob, Killamarsh Variation. The Bell Tower of St Giles Church was part of their itinerary for this year’s “Bell Ringing Holiday” that they have enjoyed together annually since their days at University “Many years ago”. |

26-7-08 | Friendship Walk. A sponsored friendship walk around Rother Valley Country Park was held on Saturday 26th July. Walkers and Sponsors rose over £700. Many came along and enjoyed friendship, fellowship and a healthy walk around this lovely park whilst raising funds towards the work and mission of St. Giles Church. |

22-7-08 | Year 6 Leaver’s Service. Y6 had a leaving service at St Giles Primary School to celebrate their moving on to the next stage of their education at secondary school. They visited St Giles Church for a leaver’s service on the 22nd July and each were presented with a Bible. The service was led by Reader John Hall at St Giles Parish Church, Killamarsh and was a very memorable occasion for them all. |

Entertainment included singing, dancing, monologues, poetry, sing-a-long and more. This feast of entertainment took place on Saturday 19th July at St. Giles Church Hall. |

4-7-08 | Killamarsh Festival and Blessing of the Well dressings. Revd. Helen blessed the Well dressings on Friday the 4th July in readiness for the Killamarsh Festival on Saturday the 5th July, during which members of St. Giles showcased “Messy Church,” a new way of doing church for children and young families. The sun came out after a rainy start of the festival and many experienced what promises to be a fun way of worshipping the Lord.

3-7-08 | Fashion and Shopping evening. A fashion and shopping evening took place at St. Matthew’s Church, Renishaw, on Thursday 3rd July at 7pm. affording an opportunity for fellowship and to buy good quality ladies clothing at very reasonable prices. Thank you for supporting this event.

21-6-08 | A Treasure Hunt on the 21st June in and around Killamarsh took place as planned despite inclement weather conditions and was a huge success; all who took part having a wonderful time with fun, fellowship and food. Thanks go to Mick and Karen Smith for organising this enjoyable event and providing a scrumptious buffet afterwards. |

7-6-08 | The ‘Praise and Worship’ evening held on June 7th was a great success with members from 4 or 5 different churches coming together to praise the Lord and we look forward to welcoming The All Saints Music Group back at sometime in the future. £180 was raised for Father Georges. 30-5-08 | St Giles Clock. The £1,904 needed for urgent repairs to the church clock was successfully raised and work commenced on Friday 30th May. A big thank you to all who have given so generously to this appeal. It will ensure that the clock will continue to be of service to the local community for many years to come. |

24-5-08 | Holy Land. Michael and Helen gave a presentation evening at the Church Hall on 24th May, to show memorabilia and photographs that they collected on their own recent pilgrimage to Israel. It was very interesting and many of the visitors that evening are now planning to join the pilgrimage arranged in November 2009.

20-5-08 | F.E.A.S.T. Fellowship, Encouragement, Advice, Supper, Training. Tuesday 20th May at St Matthew’s Renishaw. After enjoying dinner and fellowship, we explored and discussed the topic of reaching families on the fringes of the Church. Although this event is primarily for children’s workers it was very useful for us in helping our mission to reach families within our community with the Good News of the Gospel, a concern that is wider than just those involved in children’s ministry.

26-4-08 | Renewing Ministry Conference. “Go for Growth” - Ven Bob Jackson, Archdeacon of Walsoall and Bishop’s officer for growth. Several St Giles Church members attended the conference at “Lady Manners” Baslow on 26th April 2008 Around 300 people attended the conference to find out from the speakers how churches can grow. There were thirteen workshops to attend; between us we managed to attend five of them. Bob’s input offered inspiration to us all and we followed this up with a very active meeting back in Killamarsh.

12-4-08 | Litter Pick. Volunteers joined us from across village for the HOPE08 Litter Pick in Killamarsh. On April 12th at 9am – 12 noon. We picked around the Precinct car park, up High Street, along Sheepcote Road to St Giles school and back to the church hall for tea, coffee, soup and Roll. WHY? – To show that we care, not only about the environment but about the community that we live in. |

22-3-08 | Easter Extravaganza at the Church Hall Killamarsh was held on Saturday 22nd March 2008. Lots of stalls and crafts on display and for sale. Thanks to all those who supported this marvellous occasion, just over £600 was raised for the Church.

1-3-08 | An Indian Night was held on Saturday 1st March 2008 at St Matthew’s, Renishaw. It was a great success with over 30 people enjoying fellowship and sharing an evening of authentic Indian cuisine with live entertainment. Over £220 was raised for Church Funds. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the evening so successful.

This year the rev Helen and Michael Guest held an open house at the Rectory when pancakes were served. All were invited and welcome, fellowship and fun was shared by all who attended. 20-12-07 | Christmas Service. International concert organist Jon Smith played at our Christmas Concert at St Giles on 20th December 2007. Entrance fee included Mulled wine and Mince Pies. The Church hall was a buzz of excitement and we enjoyed a feast of carols and music.

25-11-07 | Bishop Humphrey the new bishop of Repton was invited to preside and preach at St Giles on Sunday 25th November 2007 and at St Matthew’s Sunday 16th December. We invited many of our family and friends to ensure the Bishop had an encouraging congregation and a warm welcome to our parishes.

Different groups, such as Scouts and Guides paraded from the Church Hall on Sheepcote Road to the Church. Then everyone retired to the Church Hall for Afternoon Teas. 1940’s Style.

4-11-07 | Friendship Walk. Sunday 4th November 2007 was a lovely day, bright and sunny and the temperature was mild. From St Giles Church Yard, we walked for about two hours around the village, past the fishing lakes, and up through the forest. We enjoyed the opportunity to spend time together in the beautiful local countryside.

20-10-07 | Line Dance. A line dance at the Church Hall on 20th October 2007. Line dancing is a good way to have fun with friends and meet new people. Cowboy boots, Moccasins, Swirling Skirts, big dangly earrings for the ladies and Jeans and Stetsons for the men, everyone made some effort to make the evening a great evening.

Over 50 Scarecrows were paraded in church by the children and there was a live “Wurzel Gummage” look-a-like and a clown to help the children remember the harvest festival

29-9-07 | Patronal Festivals 2007 services were in September at St Giles and St Matthew’s. Our Churches came together for joint services on both occasions and St Matthew’s held a BBQ and Exhibition at Renishaw as part of the celebrations on 29th September.

| St Matthew’s Strawberry Fayre took place on Saturday the 14th July 2007 at St Matthew’s Church Renishaw and though it was necessary to hold this event indoors due to the recent bad weather, it was nevertheless a good time of fellowship and fundraising, which was enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks go to all who helped on the day and to those who came along and supported this event. £340 was raised to go towards the work of God’s Church in the Community.

14-06-07 | Anniversary BBQ. There was a “Bring and Share” barbecue at the rectory on 14th June to mark the first anniversary of rev Helen and rev Michael Guest arriving in the Parishes of Killamarsh and Renishaw. Everyone was welcome and a jolly time was had by all.

| Café Aroma has moved to the Methodist Church on Sheffield Road and with the move comes a new name 3C’s Café representing our mission statement to be Christ in Church and Community. Our thanks go to our Methodist brothers and sisters in Christ for generously allowing us to use their premises.

| Free Bus. Not all of our endeavours are a complete success; we hired a community bus and ran a free bus service on Sunday mornings. For several months we hoped this might entice and encourage people to attend the Sunday Services. There were only a few, occasional users, and so we had to stop the bus service but now offer a personal lift to church for those who cannot make it without transport. If you require such transport then please call rev Helen Guest, before Sunday Services, 0114 2482769.
